Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided
Star Wars Galaxies was the first major massively multiplayer online roleplaying game that was inspired by the popular Star Wars franchise. Developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts, the game was released in North America and EU in 2003 and in AU in 2006. Star Wars Galaxies (also called Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided) was available on Microsoft Windows platforms until December 2011 when official servers were shut down. Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided Description
Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided is set during the height of the war between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance, otherwise known as the period of the Galactic Civil War. The timeframe falls right after the end of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.
Players in Star Wars Galaxies choose from one of the available races (Human, Wookie, Bothan, Rodian, Twi'lek, Trandoshan, Ithorian, Mon Calamari, and Sullustan) and professions (Jedi, Bounty Hunter, Entertainer, Smuggler, Commando, Spy, Officer, Medic, and Trader). There are also sub-professions such as Pilot, Chronicler, and Politician, to further round out their Star Wars Galaxies experience.
Star Wars Galaxies had a wide variety of activities for players to do in the galaxy far, far away. Aside from the standard combat missions, characters can travel space with their starships, build buildings and create cities of their own by joining with other players. Speaking of vehicles, there are also ground vehicles and air vehicles, aside from starships.
There are planetary locations such as Tatooine, Naboo, Corellia, Dantooine, Yavin 4, Endor, and Dathomir, as well as space zones in-between. Players in Star Wars Galaxies could also interact with familiar characters from the Star Wars universe, such as Luke and Leia Skywalker, Han Solo and Chewbacca, Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, and even the Force Ghost of Obi-Wan Kenobi.
There are multiple Star Wars Galaxies Emulator servers online. Among the most prominent of these are SWG Emu (formerly known as Basilisk), Sentinels Republic, SWG Restoration, SWG Remastered, and SWG Legends.
