Elite Dangerous Description

Elite Dangerous is one of the few crowd-funded massively multiplayer online games that is a qualified success and continues to be a very popular one, at that. With a solid following based on the original 1984 Elite game and its later sequels, Frontier Developments was able to bring the franchise into the 21st Century successfully to a whole new generation of gamers.

Of particular note is the game's scale. Elite Dangerous is one of the largest persistent, open-world exploratory multiplayer online games. Set on a virtually precise recreation of the Milky Way galaxy, Elite Dangerous boasts nearly 400 billion star systems, with only 150,000 of it being based on real-world astronomical mapping. Some of the star systems from previous Elite games, such as Frontier and First Encounters, were also carried over.

Elite Dangerous players can traverse the entire galaxy as they please. Starting with a small starship and a handful of currency, they can choose their own paths, earning fame and fortune as a miner, a courier, a bounty hunter, trader, and many other roles in the vastness of space. A player gains experience and rises in ranks based on achieving goals related to their roles. These roles are combat, trader, and explorer. 2 additional roles were added with the Odyssey expansion that opened up on-foot ground options, Mercenary and Exobiologist.

Players are members of the Pilots Federation, but can also be involved with the major galactic factions: the Empire of Achenar, the Galactic Federation, and the Alliance of Independent Systems. There are also a multitude of minor factions, organizations, and corporations that the players will have to interact with at one point or another in their time playing Elite Dangerous.
