Warframe Description
In Warframe, players take on the role of the ancient warrior race called the Tenno. After spending an extended period of suspended animation through cryosleep, the Tenno awake on an Earth in peril. The Tenno have forgotten their memories about the Old War prior to their hibernation. For in the far future time that they have been reborn to, they must now battle new threats.
Factions aside from the Tenno include the hi-tech mega-corporation Corpus; the deteriorated human clones of the militaristic Grineer, the disfigured and diseased masses of the Infested; and the race of self-replicating beings created by the Orokin called the Sentients.
The Tenno are guided by the Lotus, and are equipped with bio-technological suits that enhance their abilities, which are the game’s eponymous Warframes. Later on, the story reveals that the players are actually the Operator, a human child and part of the Orokin who survived in the ship Ten-Zero.
In their Warframes, players use both their enhanced physical attributes and a variety of weapons at their disposal. Warframe combines elements from different video game genres, such as roleplaying games, shooter games, and stealth/survival games. There are also other combat units that players in the game can take control of besides Warframes, such as the larger Necramech, spacebound platforms called Archwings, and the Railjack combat spaceships.
Players operate from their Orbiter space ship, which serves as their staging ground and headquarters. There are over 30 Warframes for players to choose from. Each Warframe has its own unique set of stats and abilities. In addition, there are 300+ weapons for melee and ranged engagement. Getting comfortable and mastering the combination of Warframe abilities and weapons are the keys to succeeding in the game, particularly the fast-paced movement and parkour style maneuvering. There are various missions scattered in the 18 worlds in-game. Players in Warframe progress by finishing key PVE and PVP missions in order to unlock newer areas. Accomplishing missions reward players with experience and in-game currency, as well as loot in the form of equipment, mods, and blueprints. The blueprints are particularly sought after as they can be used to construct new types of Warframes and weapons.
Although most upgrades can be acquired through grinding missions in Warframe, players may also opt to purchase them from the in-game store via microstransactions or through trading with players using Platinum. There are also cosmetic items available for players who like to customize the looks of their Warframes.
Players can play solo or team up with up to three others in a squad. Missions in Warframe range from simply defeating all enemies in a map to stealthy interaction of terminals, or rescue tasks. Mission maps are randomly generated, and there are large open-fields where multiple bounties are available.
Warframe has regularly added content, with 10 expansions and counting: The Second Dream (2015), The War Within (2016), Plains of Eidolon (2017), The Sacrifice (2018), Fortuna (2018), Empyrean (2019), The Old Blood (2019), Heart of Deimos (2020), Deimos Arcana (2020), and Corpus Maxima (2021).
